People Who Suffer From Migraines Are More Prone To Have Depression
People suffering from chronic headache, especially migraines, are more likely to suffer from depression, feel tired, and have a host of other hard physical symptoms, according to a medical investigation published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
The medical research involved 1000 woman who buy citalopram online at headache clinics in five US regions. Of the man tested, 331 reported incidental headache (fewer than 15 headaches per month) and 665 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the woman were tested with migraines.
The clinical study found patient with chronic headache were four times more prone than those with incidental headache to report symptoms of major Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also two times more prone to report a high degree of symptoms depended to headache, pain or puzzle during intercourse.
Among woman diagnosed with severely disabling migraine, the medical investigation found the likelihood of major Depression increased 32-fold if the patient also reported other severe symptoms.
“Painful physical symptoms would stir up or be a manifestation of major Depression in patient with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy topamax and Manic Depression will heighten pain perception,” said medical study author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This link between migraine and major Major Depression suggests a common neurobiology.”
Tietjen says medical study are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Manic Depression would be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.
“Indifferent of what’s causing the dependence between migraine and Depression, psychiatric sickness such as Depression complicates headache management and can give rise to poorer sequel for headache treatment,” said Tietjen.
The clinical research was helped, in part, by the American Headache Society, which judges 18 million American patient are affected by headache.
The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 20,000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to meliorating women care through education and clinical study. A neurologist is a osteopath specialized on diagnosing, treating and managing disorders of the brain and nervous system such as stroke, Alzheimer’s disorder, epilepsy, Parkinson disorder, and repeated sclerosis.
